I just LOVE being a motivational speaker. Last night I did Act I one of a Four Act One Woman Show I wrote for the Louisiana National Guard Family Services State Workshop. I was nervous. New state. New people. Radical new way of doing a keynote. And the age old “will they like me” fear that still lingers from high school.
I am happy to report that these people gave new meaning to friendly. That the things I experience are the same things they experience too. That despite my accent, they heard what they needed to hear to help heal their hearts. That coming out of my comfort zone, once again, proved to be a hit, proving that nobody notices normal and if you give them something different, they will applaud you for that courage. And I am happy to say, they like me. I know, it shouldn’t matter so much, but it does. How can I connect if I’m not likable?
And once again, things happened last night that had nothing to do with me, messages were delivered and received that were not part of my planning, but part of something so much bigger.
So now I’m off to deliver Acts II and III. Tomorrow I deliver Act IV. I’ll keep you posted. If you feel the earth shake this afternoon, it means I have started to dance.
Your friendly and wacky motivational speaker,
Kelly Swanson
