Necessity, the mother of invention?

17 Mar Posted by in Random Observations | 5 comments

So I got this new Snuggie for Christmas – and I LOVE it. When I am wrapped up in it, I am snug as a bug in a rug – no cliche intended. I thought they were a little corny in the commercial, but mine is animal print which is VERY fashionable even if it makes me look like some sort of exhibit in wild kingdom – leopards who struggle with their weight, episode four. So I love my Snuggie, but it doesn’t wrap all the way around and when I get up to get another piece of cake, my back is cold. So I sewed up the back (genius that I am) and solved that problem.  But it was a tad too long and I would trip over it on my way to get another piece of cake. And I really only need it to go to my waist anyway – so I cut and hemmed it – seamstress that I am. And the sleeves hung a little too far past my wrists and would get caught in the fridge door when I closed it after getting some chocolate milk to go with my cake. So I cut the sleeves too, and bedazzled them in the process, because even overweight leopards appreciate a little bling. I love this Snuggie but there is a lot of excess fabric around the neck, which is great for saving some cake crumbs to eat later, but sometimes blocks my view of my People magazine when I’m trying to check out baby Suri’s new bedroom furniture. So I trimmed the neck and even made it into a nice V-neck which is supposed to be flattering for us big-busted girls – wait, didn’t Queen write a song about that? Okay, now that all my hard work is done, I’d like to introduce you to my new invention – otherwise known as the sweat shirt.

Hi I recently finished going through your site and I am rather impressed. I do have a couple questions for you though. Do you think you’re planning on performing a follow-up article on this? Will you be likely to keep bringing up-to-date as well? Also if you obtain an opportunity will you rate my Rappelz guild site whenever you have an opportunity?

I am the mom of a 3 1/2 yr old daughter and a 9 month old son who got along really well until recently. I need some advice on how to help them get along better. Here are some examples of what she does: She pours out his lotion/baby wash on his floor in his room cause “she just felt like it”. She took my perfume and I caught her trying to spray him with it, thank goodness i got to them in time. She constantly destroys her room and wont pick it up or even help me pick it up. SHe refuses to listen to me I have to pratically yell at her to get her attention and I hate yelling. In public or at friends house she is the exact opposite she listens to me, helps pick up after play time and loves on her brother.

I hear your pain. I know what it’s like to have to yell and still not be heard. It is so frustrating being a mom because you feel like so much is out of your control. You are trying to control them, and they are starting to try and control you. I only have one child – so I haven’t had the issues that you have with two. Sounds like your older child is acting out, quite normally, to a new situation in her life – a sibling. Why don’t you look up articles on how to help a child adapt to a new brother? There are also lots of mom sites out there ( is one) where you can join and have someone to talk to. Great for mothers who have no time to go meet with other mothers in person. But we can meet online. Facebook is a good place too. Local MOPS group around you? They are great for being with other mothers and sharing these issues for advice. Good luck. Being a mother is hard. Hang in there.
