My New Theme Song As A Motivational Speaker

My New Theme Song As A Motivational Speaker

As a motivational speaker, one of my strongest themes is having the courage to jump. Standing on a cliff, surrounded by the voices telling you no, and jumping anyway. And now I have found a song that says it even better – “Always Trust Your Cape” by Guy Clark. (embedded below)

My favorite line in the song is the one that says “no one ever told him he couldn’t – so he did”. Which is so true. So many of the wonderful things that have happened in my life and my career, have come as a result of jumping without hesitating -without second guessing myself – without worrying about “what if” – jumping without looking back. That, to me, is a life well lived. Business schools teach you to analyze to death before trying. Life has taught me that often you just have to jump. And have the faith to trust your cape.

I hope this song brings you the same joy and encouragement it brought me. Thank you, Tom Taggart, with the Idaho Association of School Business Officials for sharing it with me.
